Google Photos storage full? What to do with event photos

The free 15 GB is shared with Gmail and Drive. One wedding’s worth of videos can fill it. Here’s a way out that keeps the originals.

In short
  • Google’s free 15 GB covers Gmail, Drive and Photos together.
  • Event videos fill it the fastest.
  • Share the event from a Room; it doesn’t touch your Google storage.
STEP 1

See what is using the space

Google counts Gmail, Drive and Photos against the same free 15 GB. On Google’s storage page, videos and large attachments are usually at the top.

STEP 2

Don’t collect everyone’s photos into your own account

With twenty guests adding videos to an album you own, it is your space that fills up, not theirs.

STEP 3

Use a Room for the event

Guests add photos and videos to a Room with one link, no account. It has its own space, separate from Google, and everyone can download the originals.

Questions

Does a Room count against my Google storage?

No. Files in a Room are stored by Just Send Files, separate from your Google account.

Can I still keep the photos in Google Photos?

Yes. Download all and add the ones you want to keep. The Room is the place to collect and share; your library stays yours.

How long do the files stay in a Room?

As long as the Room lasts: up to 3 days on Free, longer on paid plans. Download what you want to keep before it ends.

One link. Everyone’s photos.
Free up to 10 GB. Guests never need an account.
