In short
- OneDrive Free: 5 GB, shared with your other files.
- Link expiry and passwords need Microsoft 365.
- A Room shares and collects with anyone, no account.
Know what OneDrive Free gives you
Microsoft lists 5 GB of free storage. “Anyone” links can be opened without signing in, but setting an expiry date or a password is only for Microsoft 365 subscribers.
Collecting files is the hard part
OneDrive’s file request, where others upload without seeing the folder, is for work or school accounts, and an admin has to turn it on. Personal accounts don’t have it.
Share and collect with a Room
A Room has its own space, separate from OneDrive. Anyone with the link can view, download or add files, no account, and you choose how long it lasts.
