How to send long videos from an iPhone without losing quality

Chat apps shrink long videos or refuse them. Send a link to the original file instead.

In short
  • Chats and email make long videos smaller, or don’t send them at all.
  • Upload the original once and get one link.
  • They download the full-quality video, no account.
STEP 1

Don’t send it in the chat

iMessage, WhatsApp and email shrink a long video so it travels fast, or stop it at their size limit. What arrives looks blurry on a big screen.

STEP 2

Upload the original once

Open Just Send Files on your iPhone and pick the video. If iPhone says “preparing”, save the video to the Files app first and pick it from there: that sends the exact file.

STEP 3

Send the link

Paste the link in any chat or email. They open it on any phone or computer and download the original, in full quality.

Questions

Why does my video look blurry when I send it?

Most chat apps compress video before sending, so it travels quickly over mobile data. The other person gets a smaller file than the one on your phone.

Can I use AirDrop?

Yes, if the other person is next to you, usually with an Apple device. AirDrop sends the original. For anyone else, a link works better.

Does the other person need an account?

No. They open the link and download the video, on any phone or computer.
