How to make a QR code guests scan to upload photos
Just Send Files ·
A QR code is the easiest way to get photos from a room full of people. Nobody has to type a link, find a group chat or install anything: they point the camera, tap, and add their photos. This guide shows how to set one up, where to place it so people actually use it, and what to write next to it.
How a photo upload QR code works
The QR code itself is just a link in a picture. What matters is where it leads. For collecting photos it should open a page that:
- works in any phone browser, with no app to download;
- lets guests pick several photos and videos at once from their gallery;
- does not ask for an account or a password before the upload;
- keeps the files in original quality, not a compressed copy.
Set it up in a few minutes
- Create a Room. On Just Send Files, add a first photo (a cover or a welcome picture works) and sign in. The Room exists as soon as it uploads.
- Open it to guests. In the Room’s Settings, switch on uploads for others, give the Room a name, and choose how long it stays open. Turn on approval if you want to see files before everyone else does.
- Get the QR code. Use the Room’s QR code and put it on a card, a sign or a slide.
- Test it. Scan it with a phone that is not yours, upload one photo, and check it arrives.
Where to put it
- On every table in a small frame or on the place cards. This is where most uploads come from.
- At the entrance on the welcome sign, so people know from the start.
- At the bar or photo corner, where people already have their phones out.
- On a slide or a screen at the end of the evening, with a reminder to upload before leaving.
- In the thank-you message the next day, as a link, for everyone who forgot.
What to write next to it
Keep it to one line that says what to do and that nothing needs installing. For example: “Scan to add your photos and videos. No app, no sign-up.” or “Help us remember today: scan and upload your photos.” Add the date by which you would like photos, if the Room closes.
It works for more than weddings
The same setup suits birthdays, christenings, graduations, school events and team events. For a full wedding plan, see how to collect photos from all your wedding guests.
FAQ
- Do guests need an app to upload through the QR code?
- Not with a Room. The QR code opens a web page in the phone’s browser, and guests choose photos and videos from their gallery right there.
- Can I use a free QR code generator?
- You can, as long as the code points to a link you control and that will keep working. The simplest option is the QR code your sharing service gives you for the Room itself, so the code and the photos always match.
- Where should I put the QR code?
- Where people pause: on the tables, at the bar, on the welcome sign, on the back of the menu or programme, and on a slide at the end of the evening.
- Will the photos keep their quality?
- With a Room, yes. Files are not compressed, resized or converted, so the full resolution and camera details arrive exactly as the phone sends them.
- Can strangers upload if they find the code?
- Anyone who scans it can open the Room, so for public places add a PIN and turn on approval, so new files only appear after you accept them.
Try a Room
Create a Room, share one link or QR code, and let everyone add their photos and videos in original quality. With the link or a PIN, guests never need an account or an app.
